Not1More and our partner organisation in Guinea-Bissau, Nô Recursos, are collaborating to raise money for the Simbor village primary school. Funds are urgently needed to repair the building, increase capacity and subsidise school places for families that cannot afford to send their children to school.
Simbor village hosted participants of the 5th International Forest Defenders Conference at the Spirit Forest festival in February 2025. On our visit to the school, the pupils impressed everyone with their beautiful handwriting and brilliant mathematics skills, as well as their care for the trees and environment. However, the children were being held back by the state of disrepair of the school building – two of the classrooms lack a roof, and all lack lighting. The school is heavily oversubscribed, meaning that several classes must take their lessons outdoors, and unfortunately, although school places are not expensive, many families do not have the resources to pay school fees (although subsidised by the government, school is not free in Guinea-Bissau).
This campaign is to raise:
- £4000 to build a roof on the classrooms that lack it, nearly doubling indoor capacity
- Money received above this amount, and regular donations, will support children who could not otherwise afford to attend school. £12 per year pays a child's school fees.
This is a collaborative campaign – we encourage people to organise their own fundraising events. If you would like any materials or advice to help organise your own fundraising event to contribute to the school fundraiser, please contact [email protected].
The launch event for this campaign has been organised by Christiano, who volunteered at the Forest Defenders Conference. This fundraising event will happen in Edinburgh on 17th May 2025. To find out more about the event, or buy a ticket, please see here.
